This was my great grandfather. He originally was mustered into the 25th Arkansas Infantry,Company K in St. Charles,AR. Later on 18 NOV 1862 he was detached to the 1st Arkansas Light Artillery Battery (later known as River's Battery). He served with this unit until he was captured on 3 SEP 1864 at the fall of Atlanta. He was then sent to Camp Douglas until his mustering in 2 APR 1865. He was assigned to this unit as a Teamster. oOn 13 AUG 1865 he is reported as deserted while stationed at Camp Rankin,Colorado Territory. James then made his way back to Arkansas County where he started out at.
